Coin Identifier helps hobbyists and resellers recognize coins quickly without manuals. The project started with a clear goal. Take a photo, get a trustworthy match, then see what matters. We shaped a mobile flow that places the camera first, explains lighting guidance, and presents results with large imagery, readable facts, and actionable next steps.
Objective
Smart capture suggests better angles and lighting before analysis. Visual matching returns likely candidates with confidence labels, while a details screen outlines country, year, mint mark, composition, and common variants. A pricing view aggregates recent market ranges and condition notes. Saved items live in collections with tags, so users track finds and plan trades.
Challenge
Coin photos can be tricky due to glare, wear, and off-center framing. We solved this by adding on-screen framing and exposure hints. To avoid information overload, we simplified the results with key facts and added expandable sections for history, variants, and value, helping users stay focused during quick checks.
Result
Usability tests showed that users could find the right coins faster compared to manual searches and made fewer mistakes during scans. Testers said they were able to make clearer decisions about grading and whether to research further. The app is designed to easily support future features like offline packs and bulk scans.
